What Are Helical Pile Foundations?

See how this nearly 200 year-old foundation technology works - and why it's rapidly transforming how we build in Western New York

What is a helical pile?

  • 1

    Pile Cap

Transitions from the pile to whatever structure needs support. Virtually infinite variety of designs available.

  • 2

    Wind Lift

Secures pile cap to the helical pile shaft.

  • 3

    Pile Shaft

Transfers load down to helix plate, can be made from round pipe or solid square shaft.

  • 4

    Helix Plate

Provides much of the helical pile's load capacity, ensures a smooth and disturbance-free installation.

  • 5

    Pilot Point

Allows for accurate pile placement, helps pierce tough soils for easy install.

How do helical piles work?

Helical piles work by transferring a structural loads through the ground, down into the helix plate. The helix plate allows the pile to "screw" into the soil which eliminates the need for excavation.
Load resistance is provided by the soil exerting pressure on the top and bottom of the plate, delivering significant strength in a compact footprint.

Installs far faster than other foundations
Ready for immediate loading (no cure)
    100% steel construction
Uses far less raw material (more eco-friendly)
Needs no excavation, causes no soil disruption

Where Can You Use Helical Piles?

Residential

Decks, garages, home additions, modular/site build houses, sheds, sunrooms, patios, fences

Commercial

Multi-family housing, commercial units, mixed-use buildings, solar panels, energy storage

Industrial

Equipment foundations, outbuildings, generators, pipelines, infrastructure, security fencing

Benefits of a helical pile foundation

Fast Installation

A typical helical foundation can be installed and ready to use over 90% faster than poured concrete

Minimal Prep

No excavation or extensive site prep is required, offering a huge reduction in project timelines and site work

Small Footprint

Helical piles offer a tiny footprint compared to their load capacity, ideal for sensitive sites or tight access

Artboard 10

Eco-Friendly

No ground disturbance, zero vibrations during install, less raw material, and they can even be 100% recycled

Wildly Versatile

Support that's suitable for virtually any residential, commercial, or industrial structure

No Curing Time

Ready for loading immediately after installation, dramatically expediting your construction timelines

Code Approved

Approved by national building codes and trusted by engineers, a foundation you can trust for the long-term

_

Zero Disturbance

Does not disturb or disrupt the soil on installation, makes future site remediation faster, easier, and more affordable

How Do You Get a Helical Foundation Installed?

1

Design & Engineering

The first step is to assess your project and devise an efficient foundation design. Helical piles are unique, so we work with engineering partners who understand the technology.

2

Installation

Once your foundation design is approved, installation can begin. Because we need minimal equipment and raw materials, this will be an shockingly-easy and painless process.

3

Construction

You can start building on your helical foundation immediately after installation, no waiting for concrete to cure. We can confirm load capacity in real-time, giving you complete and lasting confidence.
